Time Allotment : 2 x 45 minutes

A.    Standard Competence : Speaking
9.   Expressing the meaning of expressions in the transactional dialogue and simple interpersonal dialogue in daily life situation.

B.     Basic Competence :
9.1 Expressing the meaning in transactional dialogue (to get things done) and simple interpersonal dialogue (to socialize) accurately, fluently, and acceptable by using simple spoken expressions of gratitude, compliment, and congratulations in daily life context.

C.    Indicators :
Students are able to:
1.      use the expressions of congratulations in a dialogue.
2.      respond the expressions of congratulations in the dialogue.

D.    Character Values :
With the establishment of the indicators stated above, the character values friendly, social awareness, and appreciation to someone’s achievement can be developed.


E.     Learning Objectives :
1.      When the students are given some situations, they will be able to perform a dialogue using the expressions of congratulations based on the situation that they have already chosen.
2.      When the students make a dialogue expressing congratulations, they will be able to choose and put suitable expressions of congratulations and responses in the dialogue.

F.     Teaching Learning Material
1.      Short dialogue expressing congratulations
a)      Roy     : Who won the football match yesterday, Roy?
Tom     : Our team did. We won three to one.
Roy     : Congratulation. I’m glad to hear it.
Tom     : Thank you!
b)      Kim     : Julie, did you join the entrance test?
Julie     : Yes, I did. I’m admitted at the English department of a state university.
Kim     : That’s great! Congratulations. You take an English Teacher Training and
Education, don’t you?
Julie     : Yes, I do. Thank you, Kim.
Kim     : You are welcome. You have the right choice since being a teacher seems to
be very promising in the future.
            Julie     : Yes. I’m really interested in teaching and to me, teaching is challenging.

2.      Definition of expression of congratulations
Congratulation is an expression of pleasure at someone’s success or good fortune. We usually congratulate someone on some happy occasions; such as for an achievement or winning something, passing an exam, getting a job or promotion, birthday, anniversary, engagement, wedding, and graduating from school.
